Sacred Journeys

Sometimes one of the sister blogs points to the other.

So I would like to point to Pilgrimage and Place for the documentary series from Bruce Feiler on Sacred Journeys.

Faith
in Lourdes,
on the Shikoku,
in Jerusalem,
in Mecca,
on the Kumbh Mela
and Osun Osogbo in Central Africa.

Both Pilgrimage and Place as The Pilgrims Gaze are blogs by me.

Pilgrimage and place has no unique focus on film, documentary and youtube movies but also looks at more background subjects regarding pilgrimage and place. So also expect more stuff on spirituality, on poetry, on pilgrimage to a bench or a grave....

Both have the possibility to leave your email so you'll get an update as soon as new items are added.

Rota Vicentina

Perhaps not an official camino, this fishermens trail in the south of Portugal.
But a very enjoyable and scenic route to walk.

"Rota Vicentina is a long distance path along the Sw coast of Portugal, between the city of Santiago do Cacém and the Cape of St. Vincent, totalling 350 km to walk along one of the most beautiful and best preserved coast lines of southern Europe."

Reason and change

Nick Porter walked a camino and talked to several pilgrims from all over,
why are you walking?
Nice remarks on the ever changing landscapes,
even within the same day walks.

Historical Camino de Santiago

On the Filmoteca Espanola Tania Perez from the American Pilgrims on the Camino spotted a documentary on the Camino de Santiago.

1955!
Black and white

Visit several places starting in Roncesvalles,
see the empty roads...

Use the script to access specific places directly.

Couldn't find statistics from 1955 that quick, but graph below shows some numbers for earlier 1970-ties.
Yes, it must have been different compared to today.

Fuegos del Apostol Santiago dC 2015

The annual celebration festivities Fuegos del Apostol in Santiago de Compostela are usually a week of music, film, fireworks, cultural programmes and other entertainment and attractions.

July 24 and 25 are the main days. Perhaps you saw earlier great presentations on the facade of the cathedral.

In 2015 this wall presentation concentrated on the other side of the Plaza do Obradoiro.
The gothic facade of the cathedral pyrotechnically rebuilded.

(25:55)

For some other multimedia shows of earlier years with spectacular narrative shows on the cathedral see an earlier post on The Pilgrims Gaze.

Why do they walk, how do they change?

The Power of Saint James' Way

"The Power of Saint James’ Way is a documentary that contains true stories of pilgrims whose pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela radically changed their lives. Amazing witnesses that testify this phenomenon plus explanations from experts in different disciplines that try to identify why these changes may occur."

Oliver Schroer A song for all seasons

A song from the Canadian fiddler Oliver Schroer.
The text in this clip is an article published in 2008,
just a few days before he died.

Oliver walked the camino with his violin and played in several churches (cd camino) The music in this clip is from another cd.
Just close your eyes and open your ears...

Enya Pilgrim how you journey

Enya
Pilgrim how you journey

Pilgrim, how you journey
On the road you chose
To find out why the winds die
And where the stories go.

All days come from one day
That much you must know,
You cannot change what's over
But only where you go.

One way leads to diamonds,
One way leads to gold,
Another leads you only
To everything you're told.

In your heart you wonder
Which of these is true;
The road that leads to nowhere,
The road that leads to you.

Will you find the answer
In all you say and do?
Will you find the answer
In you?

Each heart is a pilgrim,
Each one wants to know
The reason why the winds die
And where the stories go.

Pilgrim, in your journey
You may travel far,
For pilgrim it's a long way
To find out who you are...

Pilgrim, it's a long way
To find out who you are...

Pilgrim, it's a long way
To find out who you are...

To the End of the World

And again a very recommended mini movie on the Camino Frances
by Hank Leukart.
I know I'm hooked to pilgrimage and the camino. Movies like these probably only encourage these feelings.
And again, if you walked this route, you're into memory lane.

Closer to yourself, he says.
Trailrunners for boots, he says.
Why did we go?
Visit David.
Wake up and just walk and walk and walk.
"The camino is gods dream for how people should be when they are with each other."
Well. You know...

Hank Leukart has a travel weblog with more information on his voyage,

Ich bin dann mal weg Trailer

The USA had it's way: The Way.
By the end of the year Germany has
'Ich bin dann mal weg'.

In 2001 Hape Kerkeling walked to Santiago and published a popular book on his experiences.
Being a comedian, it features some comedy.
(All fragments in this blogentry are in German.)

The movie 'Ich bin dann mal weg' is directed by Julia van Heinz, and Devid Striesow plays Hape Kerkeling.
