This is the story of Sarah, a German girl telling her story of her camino. Never alone on holidays, not a hiking type, no idea why she started.
Walking the Camino del Norte, switching to the Camino Frances where she encountered as many pilgrims in the first hour as she saw on the whole of the del Norte.
Walking the Camino Primitivo in colour and black/white. An impression from Petra Banus who walked it in 2015, from Oviedo to Santiago and onwards to Fisterra.
"Kumbh Mela or Kumbha Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river.
Traditionally, four fairs are widely recognized as the Kumbh Melas:
the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Allahabad Kumbh Mela,
the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha and the Ujjain Simhastha,
These four fairs are held periodically at one of the following places by rotation: Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain.
The main festival site is located on the banks of a river the Ganges
(Ganga) at Haridwar, the confluence of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the mythical Sarasvati at Allahabad, the Godavari at Nashik and the Shipra at Ujjain.
Bathing in these rivers is thought to cleanse a person of all sins.
At any given place, the Kumbh Mela is held once in 12 years. "
And again, this is just an impression of the Camino Frances, but what an impression it makes on those who walked this camino. Lot's of landscapes. Memories flourish.
"In February 2016, photographer Luca Locatelli traveled to Mecca and Medina during umrah, a minor pilgrimage that can be made for much of the year. He received permission from the Saudi Arabian authorities to document the trip."
An educational video on four places of Buddha pilgrimage:
"This educational video follows the path of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world as they visit Lumbini, Nepal, the site of the Buddha's birth; Bodh Gaya, India, the site of the Buddha's enlightenment; Sarnath, India, the site of the Buddha's first sermon; Rajgir, India, the site of the Vulture's Peak, where the Buddha gave several famous sermons; Vaishali, India, where the Buddha first accepted women into the order of nuns; and Kushinagar, India, the site of the Buddha's death."
The Ignatius Way walked by Ignatius of Loyola in 1522 starts in Loyola and continues to Manresa, from the birthplace of Azpeitia to the Cave of St. Ignatius in Manresa.
I'll start with this documentary on the Ignatian Way.
BlogdiBruno's experiences were welcomed earlier in this blog ;-)
Recently he walked from North Eastern Spain to the Camino Frances. On the Cami de Girona ending in mighty Montserrat, and following the Cami de Sant Jaume to the Camino Frances upto Logrono.
A collection of movies related to pilgrimage and related to Paris.
Have a look at an initiative to place bronze waymarkers, visit Pere Lachaise and the Tour St Jacques and enjoy some music from the 'Messe de St. Jacques'.
Bronze waymarkers on the pilgrimage route through Paris?
"The tower's rich decoration reflects the wealth of its patrons, the wholesale butchers of the nearby Les Halles market. The masons in charge were Jean de Felin, Julien Ménart and Jean de Revier. It was built in 1509 to 1523, during the reign of King Francis I. With a dedication to Saint James the Great, the ancient church[2] and its landmark tower welcomed pilgrims setting out on the road that led to Tours and headed for the way of St James, which led to the major pilgrimage destination of Santiago de Compostela. A relic of the saint preserved in the church linked it the more strongly and in modern times occasioned its listing in 1998 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO among the sites and structures marking the chemins de Compostelle, the pilgrimage routes in France that led like tributaries of a great stream headed towards Santiago in the northwest of Spain."

The revival of pilgrimage isn't a local phenomenon. I like to introduce you to one of the many Russian pilgrimage sites: the Velikoretsky Procession of the Cross.
A large route where pilgrims walk about 150 kilometers
following the icon of St Nicolas / St Nicolay.
